    Matthew 6:33 (ESV)

“But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.”

This is the first verse on my list of life verses. Matthew 6:33 is a verse that I have covered in a previous post but it bears repeating here. It is a verse that I claim on a daily basis.

It starts with 2 key words that are vital in everyone’s walk with the Lord. The 2 words are “seek” and “first.”

    Seek

Dictionary.com defines seek as: to go in search or quest of: to seek the truth.” This is true for all Christians. To seek or pursue. This takes definite intention of the believer. The second word is –

    First

This word indicates priority that we should pursue (seek) the Kingdom of God which is the next part of this verse –

    The Kingdom of God

God’s righteous and sovereign reign over all creation.

    His Righteousness

    His holiness, perfection.

    Added Unto You

All these things – our needs according to God’s sovereign plan – will be met.

When we seek God and to live a holy life, which can only be accomplished through the power and grace of Christ Jesus, God blesses us. I am not talking about prosperity gospel that is so prevalent today, I am talking about God working in us His sovereign will and giving us what we need to live for God and bring Him all the glory.

  • Day 38 “Nothing New Under the Sun…”

There is a quote from Vince Lombardi, that as far as secular quotes go, is my favorite quote. He said, “The quality of a person’s life is in direct proportion to their commitment to excellence regardless of their chosen field of endeavor.” This a wonderful quote.

My favorite bible verse is Matthew 6:33. Jesus said, “But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.”

It  seems as if Vince Lombardi quotes Matthew 6:33, but in a different light. The bible does tell us that there is nothing new under the sun so, it’s not surprising when a person comes up with a quote that appears to help build character, it has biblical roots whether or not the author intended for that to happen.

So, as I see it,  the quality of my life is in direct proportion to my commitment to God, whom is most excellent and this is true no matter what my calling is in life.

Now Matthew 6:33. But seek, that means to take deliberate action, to go in search or quest of; first – that means priority, before all others, time, importance; the kingdom of God – all that God rules over including heaven and earth; And His righteousness – His commandments, His holiness, His glory; And all these things will be added to me – all my needs supplied by God through Jesus Christ.

To live out the Lombardi quote and Matthew 6:33 is to be totally content in all that God is for me in Christ Jesus. To be swallowed up in His glorious presence with a joy that surpasses anything that this world has to offer. This is what it means to me in desiring God.
