    Romans 12:1 (ESV)

“I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship.”

This is one of the first verses that I had committed to memory when I was a teenager through the Navigators Topical Memory System in the youth group at Westminster Presbyterian church.

It seems only fitting that we not only submit ourselves spiritually to the Lordship of Christ Jesus, but our bodies as well. Our bodies are to be a living sacrifice. We are to walk in the Spirit and not in the flesh. Our body is a temple for the Holy Spirit and we are to live a holy life (1 Corinthians 6:19-20). We are not our own because we were bought weith a price – the price paid by the blessed work of Jesus on the cross.

We worship God best when we live in the spirit and not fill our bodies with the sins of the world.
