  • Not Alone

    Romans 8:38-39

“For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

It’s dark and cold. That season of life which seems to come around when you least expect it. Your friends are scarce. Loneliness creeps in trying to capture your last bit of hope. You wait for the phone to ring – for someone to acknowledge that you have been missed, but it never does. No doubt, that everyone is busy with life. Still, you wait.

Darkness tries to settle in and make itself home. Despair soon joins in the gathering of emotions working to rob you of hope. “How can this be,” you ask your self in an attempt to try to understand, “how can you know so many people and yet feel so all alone?”

Quietly, a still voice – the Holy Spirit – begins to speak. Gently reminding you of God’s love, that bond of unbreakable friendship made possible by the blood of Christ and through his Lordship you know you have a friend in Jesus – a friend who is calling and waiting for you with an inseparable love that conquers all fears. Darkness has no place to work it despair for nothing can separate God’s love for us.

    “I am not alone.”

Remembering God’s promises brings life. Jesus is the light that destroys the darkness. In Jesus hope is restored. A new day dawns. There is more pain, more darkness and despair, there are others. Time to make a phone call…

    Ephesians 6:12 (ESV)

“For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places.”

This verse is a great reminder of what we, as the body of Christ, is up against in our daily living. As you begin your day, it doesn’t take long before you are bombarded with the flaming darts from the evil forces trying to through you off course – taking you from living in the spirit to living in the flesh. And Satan is not just trying to destroy your day through circumstances, he is also using other people.

Ephesians 6:12 reminds us that we must depend on the Holy Spirit to strengthen and led us in order to defend against the evil forces. Of course, if God is for us then who can be against us (Romans 8:31).

  • Foundations – Back to Basics – The 7 Essential Principles of Christian Doctrine

    The Trinity

The second principle of the 7 Essential Principles of Christian Doctrine,  is the doctrine of the The Trinity – God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit.

In Matthew 28:19, Jesus gives us the command to go into all the nations and to teach and baptize them in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. In the first doctrine, we have confirmed the deity of Christ thus giving him the authority to proclaim the trinity – which Jesus is a part of.

It is hard to comprehend the Trinity. One of the best illustrations to demonstrate the Trinity is the light of 3 candles. Imagine 3  lit candles set on a table about 6 inches apart. Next, turn out the light and you will see the room illuminated by the candles which you can see individually. One candle for God, one for Jesus, and one for the Holy Spirit. Each candle burning separately but producing one light.

Now place a board between you and the candles. You can no longer see each candle yet the room is still filled with its light. As you look around try to see what part of the light comes from any one of the candles. That’s the Trinity.

The truth is, the Trinity is far more complex than our feeble minds can conceive. We need to rely on God’s wisdom for any and all understanding. His ways are higher than our ways (Isaiah 58:9).

Jesus confirms in John 10:30 the he and the Father are one. Jesus also told the disciples in John 14:26 that after his crucifixion, the Father will send a helper – the Holy Spirit. This leads us into the 3rd doctrine…
