Psalm 1 (ESV)

1Blessed is the man
who walks not in the counsel of the wicked,
nor stands in the way of sinners,
nor sits in the seat of scoffers;
2but his delight is in the law of the LORD,
and on his law he meditates day and night.

3He is like a tree
planted by streams of water
that yields its fruit in its season,
and its leaf does not wither.In all that he does, he prospers.

4The wicked are not so,
but are like chaff that the wind drives away.

5Therefore the wicked will not stand in the judgment,
nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous;
6for the LORD knows the way of the righteous,
but the way of the wicked will perish.

The world is not lacking in motivational speakers, and others who will help you find the “way” to prosperity. But, there is nothing new under the sun. We only have to go to the Bible and read Psalm chapter 1 to find the answer.

We will be blessed if: 1) we walk not in the counsel of the wicked – the way of the world. 2) we find delight in the Law of the Lord – God’s way, which is contrary to the way of the world.

Meditating on God’s holy word will not only bring us peace and blessings in this life (vs 3), but will give us life. Hiding God’s word in our hearts will provide nourishment to our souls and give us strength in difficult times. God’s word will stand forever (Matthew 24:35).

But, if we do not heed to the Lord and His ways and walk in our own desires, we will die –  “for the way wicked will perish. (vs6).” It’s a choice!
